hidden gem

Piccolo seems to be a hidden gem, right on the waterfront with beautiful patio outdoor seating. The owner was very nice, from Italy, and had great knowledge of his menu, including the homemade bread that they had made fresh just that morning. The focaccia vegetarian sandwich was one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten. The pizza was very good as well, and the side salad that did come with the sandwich was also excellent. Made me feel like I was back in Italy, that's how good the food was, and the quality of ingredients was clearly impeccable, would definitely come back if I had the chance.

Best meatballs I've ever had.

Best meatballs I've ever had. Don't tell my grandma who is from Italy as well. I'm spoiled when it comes to Italian food so I tend to not eat out Italian food because nothing test authentic. This place has finally changed that. I'm in love with it. My wife and I shared the meatballs with a side of garlic bread. It was amazing. The ambiance makes it feel as if you're in Italy with the music and the owner who has the Italian accent. I will be back.

We have been to Maurizio's in Morgan Hill and Osteria al Mare is our favorite special occasion spots in Monterey. I'm so excited for an every day spot to open with Maurizio running the show. We had a lovely beer, a Mortadella Pistacchio, a Two Little Pigs, and the Super Vegetarian Special. They have beer on tap, wine, and soon they will have an espresso machine up and running.

What a treat!

We were doing a hike along the Monterey Bay Coastal Trail. We ended up in downtown Monterey. We decided to drop by and try Piccolo on Cannery Row. We saw the place when we dined at Osteria Al Mare. The owner, Maurizio, was there. The place smelled great. We ordered some coffee and their panini with prosciutto, arugula, and mozzarella. We decided to sit outside and chill before we head back. The food is excellent. The panini was crunchy but not tough, soft and flavorful on the inside. They did not scrimp on the prosciutto or the mozarella. The sandwich came with a simple side salad. What a treat! Great service and excellent food. And the coffee brought us back to the days when we sat and sipped coffee on the streets of Rome. Wonderful.
